What is social justice?
"Justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society."
Oxford Dictionary.
Social justice means that everyone has the same amount of wealth and have equal opportunities and privileges. So that the society we live in is equal. Social justice wants poor people to become richer and the rich people to help others and to make others richer. People in greatest need will benefit greatly if we have social justice, but social justice is hard to implement, especially in a world that is not perfect, where crime and evil happen.

What is social injustice?
"Injustice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society."
Social injustice means that everyone has different amounts of wealth, so there are rich and poor and some do not have equal opportunities and privileges as others. So that the society we live in is unequal and unjust. The society we will live is like this. People in India and countries around the world have huge wealth inequalities and their is a huge gap between the rich and the poor.
Examples of social injustice:
The caste system – this was a social system that ranked people on how important their roles are. Brahmins (Priests) were at the top and Shudras (Peasants) were at the bottom. One group called Dalit’s were never included from the group as they were considered ‘unholy’ and normal people could never touch them. They weren’t even allowed to worship in public and do things that normal people would do. This sparked tensions, as Dalit’s were stripped of their right and were being bullied by upper castes.
Current affairs of social injustice:
There is quite a lot of social injustice in India, especially after the fall of the caste system in India, there still is a lot of discrimination because of this. Dalit’s are at the very bottommost of the caste system that Dalit’s don’t even belong to a caste. Dalit’s usually have the worst jobs and they are treated badly and they are very poor. Their jobs are usually the lowest of the low, like street cleaning and they are discriminated every day by others. Here is a news story of a successful person that was born a ‘Dalit’; http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-18394914
Hindu teachings on social injustice:
In Hinduism, we believe that all beings, including animals, insects, birds, fish, or humans are created equally so we should be treated the same. That means that there should no social injustice as it in unequal. However, the caste system has been a fundamental part of Hindu society before the 20th century. As stated before, caste system is high unequal as the Dalit were treated poorly and were always discriminated. No one helped them survive in the world and they usually had the worst jobs as the upper castes were better off in cash.
Hindu quotes on social justice:
"His mouth became the Priests; his arms were made into the
Warrior, his thighs the People, and from his feet the Servants were born."
Rig Veda 10.90
All the castes in Hinduism are represented as different human body parts. All the different parts joined together and it creates a body, so it means that all castes have to work together, equally, to function properly. If one of the parts were not there, then that means the whole body would not work and nothing will happen. It tell us that we all should work together to have a better future and to treat everyone equally.

How members of Hinduism respond to social injustice:
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was an Indian independence leader who wanted the British to leave India. He stood up to social injustice many times in his life. First of all, when he was in South Africa, he wanted all minorities (like the Africans) to burn their ID as it was a symbol of separation. Moreover, he led the Salt March as they protested of the Salt Tax imposed on them. He also led hunger strikes with hundreds of others. Gandhi was very successful as the British soon left India and it is now an independent country.
